Went to the Av's opener last night it was great to see Peter on last time.
Thought I would get a fun thread going on the stange things/rituals you do at or before a sporting event.
I will start it off with I buy a bag of cracker jacks about three times a year and count how many peanuts I actually get in the bag. This being the first Av's game and my first bag of the year I felt very lucky when I had a total of 9 peanuts in the bag. To bad the Av's lost I had hoped my good fortune would transfer to them (last years high peanut count per bag was 7).
I make purple mashed potatoes with meatloaf when the Rockies make it to the play offs, my little brother and his family think that's weird.
I also have a season long ritual with the Broncos, I get together with my little brother's family and all of our friends and we have brunch before every game of the regular season, and we ramp it up if they make the play offs. What's on the menu? Blue and orange pancakes, bacon, sausage, ham and eggs to order. Half time comes with a monster batch of nachos and a big pot of green chili. Oddly enough no one is really hungry for dinner after the game... Broncos jerseys are mandatory for all in attendance, mutts all sport Bronco's collars on game day.
We will still have brunch next week even though it's a bye week, after the feast we'll head out to the dog park and let the mutts and kids run each other ragged. When the kids and mutts are done we pack everything up and return to our separate homes to wash up and get ready for next weekend.
I have lost faith in the Avs, maybe they will turn their next couple of season around and I can start cheering for them again. It looks like the NBA will have a lock out this year and frankly I won't miss them, the last MLB strike soured me on professional baseball for a decade and I'm sure I can make it ten more years without any professional basketball.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus
