It was Stargardt's Disease, a juvenile form of macular degeneration. One might assume this diagnosis took Rhett out of the games he enjoying playing. Not exactly.
How he manages to play this position remains somewhat of a mystery. He will tell you he uses his mind and his hearing to overcome what his eyesight cannot give him.
