DU has rebounded from a rocky first regular season under Montgomery to win the National Collegiate Hockey Conference playoff tournament championship and is headed to the NCAA Northeast Regional as the No. 15 overall seed to face No. 2 Boston College on Saturday.
"I have to say that the experience of winning as a player and as a coach in junior, it allows you to know what to say to your players, about how to excel in big-time games," Montgomery said Saturday after the Pioneers beat Miami (Ohio) in the NCHC title game in Minneapolis. "That experience, I drew on. I've been telling our players to focus in the moment and focus on execution and our process that gives us success."
