Conifer’s Zander Condit earns fifth at state
Sister Cayden Condit goes 1-2, while Payne and two Evergreen wrestlers have tougher time
DENVER — Pain wasn’t going to stop Conifer’s Zander Condit.
On Friday night at the Pepsi Center after he earned his way to the semifinals of the 3A state wrestling tournament, the sophomore wrestler met his match in Anthony Quintana of Buena Vista. In the loss, he walked away from the mat damaged — literally.
Following a pin from Condit and battling through an otherwise even matchup, Quintana played dirty and spladled Condit in the second period but didn’t stop at just immobilizing his legs. He kept pulling and pulling, wishboning the Conifer’s sophomore’s legs to the point that he screamed out in pain — the first time he had ever done so during a match.
When the official finally broke the two up, Condit was visibly shaken and limping significantly. Still, he trudged on through the final period of the match and lost 7-2.
