FORT COLLINS — Long after the 3A state swim and dive meet had ended, only a few swimmers remained at the Edora Pool Ice Center on Saturday. Between taking team pictures and selfies, the Evergreen swimmers beamed, singing “We are the Champions” at the top of their lungs.
In their first year under the 3A veil, the Cougars saw unmitigated success at state with another team crown. Even among all that prosperity, one girl stood out.
Junior superstar Remi Gucker was in third place midway through the 500-yard freestyle, but in her words, at least she wasn’t drowning.
As a team, Evergreen scored an astonishing 428 points, beating out second-place Pueblo County by 131 points.
