Golddigger cross country excels in final tune-up before regional race

LAFAYETTE — In what she called a “true cross country meet,” new Clear Creek head coach Becca Warmack liked what she saw out of both her boys and girls teams in the Mile League meet on Friday, their final competition before regionals this week.

Even missing their No. 2 runner, freshman phenom Millie Gothman, the girls still finished in the middle of the pack of the seven participating teams and just three points behind third-place Nederland. Only two schools — Front Range and Shining Mountain — ran fewer participants in the girls race.

Clear Creek XC sending full girls team to state

LYONS — The Clear Creek High School girls cross country team is heading to state.

At the 2A Region 1 meet at Lyons High School on Thursday, Cece Davies and Millie Gothman put on a show as the senior and freshman pair finished in the top 10, just 34 seconds apart.

The Golddiggers’ 36-point finish was good enough to earn them third place as a team at regionals. The top five teams automatically go to state.

Clear Creek ladies XC nabs sixth at state meet

COLORADO SPRINGS — Going into Saturday morning’s 2A state cross country race at the Norris Penrose Event Center, Clear Creek junior Cece Davies had a goal to keep improving on her previous two state meet marks.

She achieved the feat easily as she crossed the finish line 15th overall with a time of 21:35.8 despite stomach issues as she neared the finish line.

The Clear Creek girls as a whole placed sixth out of 20 teams, thanks to standout performances from freshman Millie Gothman and sophomore Annika McKown. They came in at 39th and 48th, respectively, at 22:41.4 and 23:03.3.
