I whole heartedly agree with you Viking. McDaniels picks character people with talent. He looks at the big picture of team. The best talent at every position does not necessarily translate into outstanding team. Members need to forsake being prima donnas. Tebow is a team player. It may take him a while to adjust to the NFL, but i suspect he will. His work ethic and leadership are huge pluses. He is no dummy, so he'll pick up the position nuances soon enough. He is coachable and wants to improve and has the upside to do so. Perhaps most important, he has a winning attitude. Let's not get impatient here, give him a couple of years and then we can evaluate what he brings besides incredible charisma and a head that is screwed on straight.
I myself am not sure what to think about Tebow. I love his impressive stats, versatility, and intangibles. But I can't help feeling that he will fail because he does not have NFL mechanics and it is too difficult to drastically reform a quarterback's style. But I will say that if anybody has the ability to overcome this problem it is Tebow because of his character and passion for the game. Only time will tell, but plan on lots of it going by before Tebow tries his hand at leading the Bronciots.
I am curious. How did Tebow get such great stats if he has such bad mechanics? Wouldn't that have been apparent by his record. Why is he so overrated? What you seem to be describing is a Doug Flutie type. Who they said was too short.
Really, the point is, is MCD really a miracle coach with mediocre QB's? he didn't do anything with Orton. I think his ability to turn around QBs might be overrated.

Recall that Orton said he was still learning the nuances of the position as mentored by MCD. No, I do not think he MCD is a miracle coach. I think he has uniquely gifted offensive (as in sports) mind. Understanding his offense and executing it are two different beasts. Orton also is no Tim in many ways. For the benefit of doubt, think back about comments form our defense. They were thinking rather than reacting instinctively. The split second thought process includes hesitation and makes the difference between a big gain rather than shutting a play down. The same can be said with the QB position. The reaction need to become reflexive in delivery because of your field-wide vision, an ability born on fathoming the offensive scheme against an opponent's defense. Orton was working on it. Couple that with defenses adjusting to Denver's offensive schemes and you have a second half melt down.
Tim will not be able to do that right away, but will grow into it. This year Tom Brady revealed that some Patriots did not buy into the system, did not believe in one another and that led to second half meltdowns last year. There is so much more to the game than athletic ability. Tom is a leader and will galvanize his team again. Tim is an exceptinal leader and will do the same in Denver. This is where the it factor comes in, the attribute Tim exudes. He will do it, maybe just not as fast as some would like to see it. There will be game-changing mistakes and the nay-sayers will thump their chests. In the end, I think Tim and his legions will be the ones laughing.

The NFL is completely different. Every nanosecond counts. His long throwing motion did not impact his success at the college level because there are bigger holes, wide receivers that are wide open, and slower defenders than at the NFL level. However, in the NFL the amount of time it takes to get the ball out of his hand could be the difference between a completion and a incompletion, INT, or sack. To me the biggest issue is accuracy. If he cannot transform his throwing motion properly he will not have the accuracy to make it in the NFL. Just ask Brady Quinn about the difference between college and the NFL. He still hasn't figured out how to be accurate.

It's always good for a story. Pickings must be slim. I read Tebow's response. You got to hand it to the kid, he is diplomatic and knows how to handle the media. He remains humble and very much aware of fitting in. He will go a long way, without being compared to Elway. Instead, he will end up having others compared to him. We shall see, won't we.
If you ever watched Cutler his answers were so scripted. I thought he was terrible with the media. So, I will give you that.

The Viking wrote: I love the pick. I have always liked Tebow. I was very excited they traded up for him. He was arguably the greatest quarteback in college football history. And those who say he can't make it in the NFL just because of his throwing motion are really not looking at the big picture. he can and is changing that. It is not a deal breaker at all. He has great accuracy, and a phenomenal leader instead of the whiner we had in Cutler. He is also a great running quarterback and many of those have been very successful in the NFL. His character and what he will bring to Denver is going to be such a boost for us. He will end up doing for Denver what Elway did as far as contributing to the community.
