285Bound Welcomes JOY International!

It is with great pleasure and humble honor that 285Bound.com welcomes JOY International to our site! This organization does some of the most important work anyone can possibly do - rescuing children from lives of slavery and abuse in countries all over the world.

We first became introduced to JOY Int'l, and Dr. Jeff Brodsky, while attending Conifer Chamber of Commerce monthly meetings. He stands out in a crowd because he's constantly barefoot, an action he has taken for over 500 days now in solidarity and support of homeless children, living on the streets and in garbage dumps in 3rd world countries, who are at greatest risk for kidnapping and coercion into a life no child should ever experience. He gave a presentation at January's meeting that had many in the audience crying - whose heart wouldn't break at hearing a story, and seeing the pictures, of a young girl who had dared to defy her brothel master and had her eye gouged out for it? But when asked if she'd do it again, she says clearly and simply, "Had I known that I would be released from that life and it only cost me an eye, I would've defied them sooner." She is now studying to become a lawyer so she can advocate for other children suffering now as she did then. Dr. Brodsky has been rescuing children for over 30 years now, spending months away from home, in the worst places on earth, without much recognition and little outside support. We aim to change that.

It is stories like these, spoken by Dr Brodsky, his voice halting and trembling with emotion, the pain evident on his face and deep in his eyes, that makes everyone who hears his message want to do something. And we can all help. 285Bound has committed to partnering with JOY International, as has the Mountain Connection (see his article here ), in order to help promote their message, news, and events and bring them much-needed support from our generous community. Dr. Brodsky has lofty dreams of building safe houses and night-care centers for children all over the world, and his dreams are achievable with our help. We will be letting you know of more events coming up soon and hope to see you at them!

But first, Dr. Brodsky has a mission coming up to India - you see, he walks the walk - he goes into the brothels and rescues the girls with his international team, comprised of many former military, and places them in safe houses where they can have a childhood that they deserve. This work is extremely dangerous, for both him and his team (if discovered they will be severely beaten, if not killed), but also for the girls themselves. For this upcoming mission to India, additional expenses were just incurred for essential hidden cameras - you see, they don't just take the girls out of there, some of them as young as 4 years old, but they gather evidence so that the pimps and brothel owners are arrested and convicted, so they can't go right back to abusing new children they steal.

To help raise money, the Bluegrass Band - Jeff Scroggins and Colorado, along with Mountain Holler, have graciously said they would do a free benefit concert on Wednesday, February 29th. Being the Leap Year day - it will be called LEAP FOR JOY

This FREE Concert and Free Hot Dog Dinner is a benefit for JOY International featuring the national award winning musicians of Jeff Scroggins and Colorado along with Mountain Holler. The concert will be held just days before Dr. Jeff Brodsky leaves for an undercover rescue operation in India. There will be an offering where you can give into the work and especially to cover additional costs for the huge expenses related to rescue. On the Leap Year day – come Leap For Joy while helping the rescue operations be more successful.
