Mountain Area Land Trust: Help Finish the Pika Trail on Pennsylvania Mtn was created by Mountain-News-Events
From Mountain Area Land Trust:
In 2015 Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT) completed the first half of a high altitude recreation loop trail on our property, adjacent to the Pennsylvania Mountain Natural Area just west of Fairplay, Colorado.
Unfortunately a last minute reduction in our primary funding source has put completion of the Pika Trail in jeopardy!
We need your support today to fund the materials and supplies necessary to finish the trail, trailhead parking and access to this unique high alpine region. MALT has over 100 volunteers ready to go to do the heavy lifting and construction. Please donate today to help us reach our goal of $18,000 to complete the Pika Trail!
The Pika Trail is a scenic and educational trail MALT initiated on its 92 acre parcel for guided public access. Experience the incredible array of wildflowers, unique high alpine wildlife including pika, moose and elk and the 2,000 year old Rocky Mountain Bristlecones of this distinctive region! In addition, the conservation of this property ensures the continuation of nearly 40 years of ongoing scientific research conducted by more than a hundred scientists - one of the longest term alpine research sites in the country. The Pika Trail will protect the area and ensure that outdoor recreational enthusiasts and scientists alike will have access to use and enjoy the land.
