Molly Madakovich Lecture
(Master Teacher at the Denver Art Museum) -Thursday June 16 at CAE-
Imagine yourself transported to the American Southwest. Picture it: bright blue skies, dramatically changing cloudscapes, earthy colors of the countryside, and adobe architecture. Many artists ventured to the American Southwest in hopes of finding an artistic muse. They journeyed west seeking unique subject matter made even rarer by its remoteness. Whatever the distance, this westward journey often inspired artists as much as the destination.

Some artists landed in the Southwest by accident while others ventured there seeking new sources of inspiration...

Ms. Medakovich's presentation on June 16 at the Center for the Arts Evergreen will explore how the Southwest shaped artists' work and how, for some, the western experience included an unforgettable journey.. She'll touch on the broader context of the American Southwest as a creative catalyst to artists during this period, get reacquainted with some familiar faces like Georgia O'Keeffe and Marsden Hartley, and discover perhaps lesser-known artists like Cady Wells, Beatrice Mandelman, and others whose works have recently been on display in the Western American galleries of The Denver Art Museum. We'll explore how these artists pushed the boundaries of landscape painting and dive into their personal and artistic responses to their surroundings.

Molly Medakovich is the interpretive specialist for Western American, American, and European art in the learning and engagement department at the Denver Art Museum. Molly has been at the DAM since 2012, and will offer a private tour through the Western Art Gallery at the Denver Art Museum on July 23, 10:30-11:30am to those who attend her presentation at the Center for the Arts Evergreen at 6:30pm on June 16. Refreshments served from 6:30-7pm. Lecture begins at 7pm. Tickets are $25 for CAE Members. $35 for non-members.
