Gouache Studies with Ed Zorensky
Ed's stunning landscape, "Blue Kayak," was recently juried into the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Show which can be seen in the CAE gallery. Here's your opportunity to learn an unusual watermedia technique from a nationally recognized artist!
Painting from observation is based on the interpretation of related shapes, values and colors. Visual expression emerges through a balance of abstraction and reality. Gouache is a perfect medium for exploring these creative choices with any motif. It dries quickly, mixes easily, and offers a color range that transposes well to larger finished works in oil, acrylic or water media. This six-week course will focus on the practical use of gouache to study the pure language of painting through rendering a landscape, a figure and a still life--two weeks for each. The course is designed to help the beginner get underway with confidence and to encourage the experienced artist to expand creative perception.
While there is no materials fee (students bring their own supplies), a $20 model fee will be collected at the the first class.

Gourdsket with Jayne Colburn
A Gourdsket is created when you combine two ancient materials and techniques into one beautiful, contemporary art form. You begin with an ancient vessel called "Lagenaria," (a hard-shelled gourd), then add on pine needles and waxed linen using the 9000 year-old technique of coiling. Hence the name "Gourdsket;" part-gourd, part-basket! The Whirlwind is an ancient basket design based on the legend that whirling winds were a result of ceremonies linking the material and spiritual realms.
No experience is necessary to awaken your creative spirit by learning the ancient art form of coiled basketry and how to apply it on to a hard shelled gourd. Jayne's thorough demonstrations and gentle teaching methods and pace have taught thousands of hands over three decades. Learn about the history behind the art form, how to find and prepare natural materials, and how to use their natural marking to accentuate design. Warning: You will delight in your finished project and be eager to create many more! A fun and unique holiday gift idea!
