The next Alpine Prospective Member class will start on January 28, 2019. This Fall there will be four Informational Meetings at our headquarters. You are required to attend at least one of these meetings.These meetings will be on Monday nights and will begin at 7:00pm.

Informational meetings will be held:
* Sept. 17th
* Oct. 15th
* Nov. 5th
* Dec. 3rd

Prospective members go through 12 to 13 classroom trainings and 5 to 7 field trainings before they start participating with the rest of the team. After an evaluation period lasting upwards of 5 months, those that meet the requirements are then eligible to be voted on by the team to become field active members.

The team looks for individuals who wish to help others and have the time and desire to contribute. No special skills are required. Attitude is much more important than skill level, and specific skills needed to participate will be taught.

A good way to improve your chances of getting selected for an upcoming prospective member class is to attend our Wednesday evening classroom trainings. This allows you to learn about us and for us to learn about you. When you attend one of these trainings, ask to talk to our Prospective Member Director, Dawn Wilson, Or Assistant Director, Mark Peesel, about membership.

Wednesday night classroom trainings are at 7:00pm at the Alpine Rescue Team headquarters. I-70 and the Evergreen Parkway. Some Wednesday night trainings are field trainings, which are not open to the public or prospective members. Please check the Team Event Calendar on the Team website for location and type of training.

PRESS RELEASE
August 19, 2021

Alpine Rescue Team will be training a new Prospective Member class beginning in December 2021. This several month training process will prepare individuals the various skills and knowledge necessary to safely participate in searches and rescues within the counties they will serve: Jefferson, Gilpin, and Clear Creek.

Currently, the non-profit organization has 60 members who respond any day or time of the year, at the request of the Sheriff’s Office. Most often, this is due to a call to 911 of someone who is lost, injured, or stuck in the backcountry. There is no charge for these services, and the Prospective Members will all be volunteers. Alpine Rescue Team’s services were requested 137 times in 2020, and its members provided over 17,000 man hours of volunteerism to the community.

Interested individuals do not need to be experts in navigation, rock climbing, nor skiing. The team is looking for those who enjoy being outdoors, are willing to learn mountaineering skills, and most importantly - are willing and flexible enough to help others in need in the mountains, no matter the day nor time. Emergencies don’t often happen at convenient times!

More information can be found on Alpine Rescue Team’s website: www.alpinerescueteam.org Those interested in applying need to attend one of 3 mandatory informational sessions – August 24th, September 20th, October 18th at 6 PM - where the application will be distributed.

Why is there an application process and not everyone can join as a volunteer? That’s a common question asked of the team. The costs involved per field active member is a significant portion of the annual budget, as well as the many hours involved to successfully train each new member. This is not an area taken lightly, and all current volunteer members participate in the PM trainings along with their other volunteer responsibilities (i.e. responding to searches, training, administrative jobs to maintain the organization). And, remember, these volunteers also have family, careers, and other life responsibilities to balance!
