On Saturday morning, Staunton State Park Manager Zach Taylor recognized the park’s 100+ volunteers at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. The Appreciation Breakfast was extra special this year, as it was the first official function held in Staunton’s new Visitor Center. Park Manager Taylor noted that most of the Visitor Center’s exhibits and interpretive displays were constructed by volunteers and many displays were still in the process of being prepared for the planned May 18th Grand Opening. Taylor took the time to personally commended each and every volunteer for being largely responsible for Staunton’s immense popularity, efficiency and reputation.
Highlighting the day was the selection of Staunton’s 2018 Co-Volunteers of the Year, Nancy Coburn and Keith Festag. Both Nancy and Keith participated in a multitude of volunteer efforts throughout the year.
Nancy trail hosts, helps with parking control, the Weed Warrior team, assists with our volunteer newsletter, manages the popular weekly trail condition updates and is always ready, willing and able to assist on special projects.
Keith is our official park photographer, trail hosts, helps with parking, assists with the Weed Warrior team, collects dangerous barbed wire fencing for recycling, and pitching in on any and every task when asked.
Thank you to all of Staunton’s dedicated park volunteers!
Volunteers (and a stalking puma) listening intently.
The visitor center meeting room was filled to capacity.
The Visitor Center is spectacular!
