Evergreen Mountain Area Historical Society
Mission Statement
Evergreen Mountain Area Historical Society is a non-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to preserve and protect the history of the Evergreen mountain area communities in Jefferson County.

EMAHS members contribute their time and financial support to collect, preserve and interpret local history, ensuring a legacy that enriches the lives of present and future generations.

Organization History
Founded in 1973, the Jefferson County Historical Society's (JCHS) first major effort was to successfully encourage Jefferson County Open Space (JCOS) to purchase the structures known as Hiwan Homestead Museum. Hiwan Homestead Museum was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and now features a significant Native American arts collection. In March 2018 JCHS changed our name to Evergreen Mountain Area Historical Society (EMAHS). In addition EMAHS offers an authentic experience in a 1920's one-room schoolhouse at Medlen School on South Turkey Creek Road. Now owned by EMAHS, Medlen was built in 1886, has been restored to its original structure. It too was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

THE EVERGREEN JAZZ FESTIVAL MISSION:
To explore and preserve, through education and live performances, the musical heritage of traditional jazz, a unique American art form, to be performed by the finest Colorado, national and international musicians in distinctive venues in Evergreen, Colorado.

Organization History
The Evergreen Jazz Festival began as a volunteer committee operating under the oversight of Our Musical Heritage, a non-profit foundation of the Denver Musicians' Association. The Evergreen Jazz Festival was conceived and founded by Sterling Nelson, who also recruited the volunteers and provided the financial underpinning that made possible the first festival in 2001.

The first festival featured nine groups, including four out-of-state jazz bands, two local jazz bands, a local quartet and an out-of-state duet for the main three-day festival.

In 2019 we celebrated our 18th Annual Festival. We continue to entertain about 800 patrons at five great venues in Evergreen, Colorado the last weekend of July every year. This year we had 13 different bands from around the country, including two student bands. Over time we added an educational element with a committee that organizes events that satisfy our Mission. This includes school visits, a music clinic the day before the Festival with some of our professional band musicians giving one on one instruction to intermediate and above music students of any age and a two hour free education session to kick off the Festival on a traditional jazz or dance topic.

Mission Statement
The Jefferson County Library Foundation's mission is to support and enrich the capabilities, resources, and services of the Jefferson County Public Library through fundraising and advocacy efforts that benefit our diverse community.

Organization History
In 1966, the Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) created a 501(c)(3) corporation called the Jefferson County Public Library Trust & Endowment Association. This entity was created to provide a way for patrons, citizens, and supporters of the public library to make tax-deductible donations to JCPL. In 1984, the Jefferson County Library Foundation was filed as the trade name for the Trust & Endowment Association. Soon after, the JCPL Board of Trustees appointed the first JCLF board of directors.

The mission of JCLF's first board of directors was "to actively seek out any resources available to our library from personal, corporate, and private foundation philanthropy, in order to provide for programs and projects which are beyond the government's means to support, but which will enhance JCPL's growth and excellence as a public institution." JCLF continues to follow that mission today by providing funding support for library services and programs benefiting children of all ages, adult and senior readers and library staff.

Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical housing ministry founded on Christian principles in 1976 in Americus, Georgia. As with all Habitat affiliates across the country, Blue Spruce Habitat is a grass roots organization founded by community volunteers. Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity was formed in 1990 by 12 individuals associated with Evergreen Christian Outreach and other organizations who saw the need for affordable homes in the area.

Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity serves the mountain areas of Jefferson County - primarily the Evergreen and Conifer areas along the 285 corridor and part of Park County to Kenosha Pass, as well as Clear Creek County. We are an independent affiliate of Habitat run by a local board of directors and we rely on donations and support from our local area to accomplish our mission. Habitat is a community effort and homes are built by local residents who give generously of their time and money. Habitat homes take approximately 2,500 hours of volunteer time to complete. In-kind donations of expertise and materials also contribute greatly to our efforts. We have built 41 homes locally and another 53 homes internationally (through our annual tithe) since our inception. With more than 400 unduplicated volunteers,
Blue Spruce Habitat brings people together to deliver a vital community service.

Our Evergreen based ReStore provides a great community resource for shoppers looking for a wide array of household items, as well as for people interested in donating their tables, chairs, sofas, appliances & more. Additionally, the local ReStore keeps more than 8.5 tons out of landfills each month!

Evergreen's Alliance for Sustainability (EAS+Y, because with YOUR help sustainability is EAS+Y) was created in 2010 by a local group of forward-thinking people who saw the importance of establishing sustainable individual and community-scale practices to secure a healthy future. Living in closer harmony with the environment by reducing waste and conserving natural resources, establishing local organic food sources, and fostering a vibrant local economy are important steps EAS+Y is helping the community to take. The Board strives to represent all segments of the community.

We support our mountain community by providing compassionate and experienced care during challenging times. A highly trained, caring staff also helps family members by offering counseling services, support, and education.

Mount Evans Hospice was founded in Evergreen, Colorado, in 1980 by a group of volunteers who responded to the community's need for hospice care, offering terminally ill patients the option to die with dignity and in comfort in their own homes. Mount Evans Hospice was one of the first hospice organizations in Colorado. As community needs evolved, home health care for non-terminal patients was added. In 1995, Mount Evans started Camp Comfort, a weekend bereavement camp that addresses the specialized needs of grieving children.

Over time, Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice services evolved to provide a team of paid and volunteer caregivers to help stabilize the problems of patients and evaluate their assets. As the health of the patient improved, self-sufficiency increased. The organization provides services for patients regardless of their income level or status of insurance and helps reduce risk of poor health and decreased financial status.

In 2016, our agency placed in the TOP 100 of the HomeCare Elite out of 10,000 home care agencies. This distinguishes Mount Evans among the top 1% of Home Health Care agencies in the country. We achieved this TOP 100 status three of the last four years, placing us amongst only a handful of agencies that have demonstrated continued excellence. We also received the non-profit of the year by the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce in 2011 and 2016.

OUR GOALS
• To provide in-home medical care and supportive services for individuals of all ages and assist with their rehabilitation, recuperation, or end-of-life issues;
• To provide assistance for family caregivers and help reduce the physical and emotional demands of providing care 24 hours a day, seven days a week;
• To provide counseling and education to families making long-term care decisions or going through the grief process.
