It is with some sorrow, but utmost joy in our hearts, that we share that Wayne Parkinson, our esteemed President of Friends of Staunton State Park, has stepped down from our Board of Directors to spend more time in retirement relaxing with his wife and friends, and enjoying the great outdoors. Many of you know him as the outgoing talker on the trails who usually had dog treats on hand for his favorite furry visitors, and who went out on many Track Chair hikes. Wayne was one of the original members of Friends of Staunton, helping create our organization along with a few others, and also one of the first volunteers at Staunton State Park, helping get the park ready for opening to the public.
He has served with indefatigable passion, dedication, and vision ever since. His leadership, wisdom, humor, friendship, and moral support helped create the team we have now, and achieve the multitude of successes we've had. He will be greatly missed by all of us on the Board.
You can still find him from time-to-time volunteering on the trails at Staunton State Park - Colorado Parks and Wildlife as he's promised to not disappear completely. Please join us in wishing him all the best! Thank you Wayne!!!
