Alpine is the only nationally accredited mountain rescue team in Colorado with memoranda of understanding to provide search and rescue services with three different county sheriffs. (Clear Creek / Jefferson / Gilpin)
At a national level, Alpine Rescue Team meets the 2004 FEMA Standards as a Type 1 Mountain & Technical SAR Team.
Alpine is one of only thirteen mountain rescue teams in the state of Colorado that is fully accredited by the Mountain Rescue Association, an international organization of teams specializing in mountain search and rescue, and safety education.
Alpine Rescue Team members are highly trained non-paid professional rescue-mountaineers based in Evergreen, Colorado.
The team relies upon the generous contributions of the community to fulfill its’ mission of saving lives through rescue and mountain safety education, and now we ask for your votes each day to help us win a Land Rover Defender and upgrade our aging fleet! Please go to Bit.ly/DefenderNow to vote, no registration needed, simply click and enter your email (only one vote per email allowed per day).
The team was created in 1959 and has completed more than 4,000 search and rescue missions in Jefferson, Clear Creek and Gilpin counties, thanks to more than 75 professional volunteers. And every rescue is free, no matter when it's needed.
They've responded to emergencies ranging from avalanches to lost hikers to stuck climbers and more on terrain including forested foothills, canyons and peaks beyond 14,000 feet.
The Alpine Rescue Team said its current fleet is wearing out.
“Defender vehicles have been used for various humanitarian causes around the world for decades and with its recent return to the U.S., we wanted to expand on that legacy with ‘The Defender Above & Beyond Service Awards’ and celebrate organizations that know the value of community and drive to do great things with them,” said Joe Eberhardt, President & CEO, Jaguar Land Rover North America.
Seven specially outfitted New Defender SUVs will be awarded, one for each category. All winners will be announced on Sept. 2.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
