Congrats to the Flukigers for their success! They have definitely provided a valuable draw for tourism to our area, worked hard at making good quality wines and showcasing local musical talent every weekend (at the winery in Bailey, and at Grow Your Own in Conifer), using other local businesses like Orange Kat (formerly Accurate Laser Engraving) to etch their wine glasses and selling hand-made pottery from Shawnee Art Gallery and River Canyon Gallery, thus actively helping support our local economy. The Snowshoe & Fondue events are almost sold out already, and this year the Downhill Barrel Stave Ski event organized by the 285 Optimist Club, of which they are members, is going to be combined with our Conifer Chamber Mt. Lugo Luge & FeBREWary event (Feb 22nd, mark your calendars!), making for an even more fun day at Meyer Ranch! As they mentioned in the article, much of their success is owed to the locals patronizing them - Thank You to all of you! :)

Local wineries catch wave of industry growth
Colorado’s grape growers take extra steps

The first year the Flukigers produced and sold about 900 cases of wine. This year, they’re on track to turn out more than 1,700 cases, including blends such as Bailey Barberian, Conifer Red, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Glacier White. “I think it has something to do with our locals supporting us,” Marcel Flukinger said.

Across Park County and Colorado, wine enthusiasts are buying up more local wines, according to a report conducted by Colorado University’s Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.

The report, which was commissioned by the Colorado Wine Industry Development Board and released on Dec. 10, said the state’s wine industry has more than tripled its economic impact to approximately $144 million.

The Flukigers often go to wine festivals to display their local brands, and they put on local events such as “Snowshoe and Fondue,” which give people an opportunity to go snowshoeing with guides on local trails and come back for fondue and winetasting. “It looks like we’re going to be on track again to sell out,” Flukiger said of the upcoming events in January, February and March. “We’re expecting about 600 people.”

The Flukigers also offer winery tours, a tasting room, a gift shop and picnic foods, among other options.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
