Facts on Holiday Waste...check back each day this week for holiday tips!

From Thanksgiving to New Years Day, household waste increases by more than 25%. Added food waste, shopping bags, packaging, wrapping paper, bows and ribbons - it all adds up to an additional 1 million tons a week to our landfills. (EPA and Use Less Stuff)

We are doing our Christmas tree recycling program again this year, and new this year we can also accept Christmas tree lights (please no ornaments or tinsel!). More details to follow later.

Free Public Recycling!
We are pleased to offer our new Single Stream recycling program free for all. No more separating, just bring your material in all together, but PLEASE NO PLASTIC BAGS. They can cause real problems in the sorting equipment at the recycle facilities.

There's an attendant on duty whenever we are open, and you do not need to be an EDS customer to bring in material.

Guidelines:
Bring your material and separate into our bins--glass, plastic, aluminum, paper, cardboard (including fiber board), and metals. NO PLASTIC BAGS. There will be a separate toter for plastic bags if used to transport your recyclable items.

At our recycling center we also accept: Electronic Waste, Metals, Concrete, Auto Parts, Yard Waste, Construction Debris, Appliances and much more. Call for details 303.278.8600

Sorry, we cannot accept: Paints, oils, batteries, or any hazardous materials of any kind. See the chart below for helpful links regarding disposal resources.

Holiday Recycle Tip
Holiday Card Recycling - Look to be sure you’re buying cards made of recycled paper. Make sure you recycle cards...

Holiday Recycling Tip
Buying new electronics and cell phones? Be sure to dispose of those old ones safely by dropping them off at a certified electronics collector or recycler. (EDS Recycle Center in Evergreen accepts batteries) The products may contain harmful metals like lead, mercury, and cadmium. Consider buying rechargeable batteries that can be used again and again.

Holiday Recycle Tip
Have a create-your-own-decorations party! Invite family and friends to create and use holiday decorations such as ornaments made from old greeting cards or cookie dough, garlands made from strung popcorn or cranberries, wreaths made from artificial greens and flowers, and potpourri made from kitchen spices such as cinnamon and cloves.

Holiday Recycle Tip
Reduce Shopping Bags - When going shopping, bring reusable cloth bags or tell store clerks you don’t need a bag for small or oversized purchases. Or combine your purchases into one bag rather than getting a new bag at each store. Thousands of paper and plastic shopping bags end up in landfills every year.

Holiday Recycle Tip
If you want to celebrate with a tree, consider a tree that can be replanted later. If you celebrated with a cut tree, after the holidays, look for ways to compost your tree instead of sending it to a landfill. EDS Recycle Center is accepting trees (undecorated) for free on Jan 7th and Jan 14th. Lam Tree Service will chip them later in the month and you can pick up the mulch at no charge!
