Behavior Program Manager

Foothills Animal Shelter is seeking a Behavior Program Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced canine behaviorist and trainer to join a growing, mission-driven, organization.

Located in a new shelter in Golden, Colorado, Foothills Animal Shelter is one of the largest shelters in the state, handling nearly 10,000 animals a year. The Shelter provides an array of animal welfare and pet owner services, including adoptions, lost and found, spay/neuter services, and training. Foothills Animal Shelter also partners with and serves as the receiving center for the Animal Control Officers of Jefferson County and the municipalities located within the County.

The Behavior Program Manager serves as a leader on the Animal Care Team. S/he oversees all services and programs related to assessment, enrichment and training of the Shelter’s dogs. Further, the Program Manager leads the shelter’s Dog Training and Enrichment Volunteers and provides training and mentoring to the staff at FAS. Finally, the Program Manager oversees and/or directly provides dog training classes for the general public.

This is a full-time, salaried position. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years of experience in canine handling, behavior assessment, and training as well as a working knowledge of animal sheltering practices. S/he must be highly supportive of open admissions practices and must have a demonstrated ability to effectively engage and
manage volunteers within an animal care environment.

This is a highly visible leadership position in a highly visible organization; therefore, the Behavior Program Manager must possess excellent communication, organizing, team building, analytical, and problem solving skills.
