Seasonal Intern (posted February 4, 2014)

Job description:

Reports to: Land Conservation Specialist
Hours: Seasonal (May 12, 2014 – August 29, 2014) 40 hours per week

Primary Duties:

Schedule and lead interpretive nature walks. Duties include but are not limited to:
Learn about the ecology of the areas.
Prepare attendees for hikes including logistics and managing waivers.
Maintain a list of groups and individuals to contact.
Check-in with attendees before hikes.
Assist staff with development/education related tasks. Duties may include:
Procure and pick up auction items.
Assist with invitation mailings.
Create auction descriptions and bid sheets.
Enter donation information into MALT’s database (Salesforce).
Organize and install equipment such as projectors, cameras, and computers.
Prepare PowerPoint presentations.
Manage social media outlets.
Help research grants.
Coordinate volunteers during MALT events.
Compose E-blasts press releases and posters.
Assist Land Steward/GIS Specialist with the monitoring of conservation easements. Duties include but are not limited to:
Organize and update GIS/GPS information.
Take photos at designated GPS points.
Record field notes.
Make corrections to reports.
Copy, scan and upload reports to required locations.
Assist in the maintenance of Conservation Easement monitoring files.


Other

Assist with the development and application of the organization’s database (Salesforce).
Performs other duties as requested by the Executive Director or other staff.
Participate in mandatory staff training.


Education, Technology Skills and Physical Abilities

Working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in natural resource sciences, environmental education or related field.
Knowledge of Colorado flora and fauna.
Interested and enthusiastic about environmental education.
Self-motivated with a sincere interest in the environment.
Experience working with the public.
First Aid and CPR certification required.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
Knowledge and/or experience with digital photography and iPad.
Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS v. 10.2 and field GPS units a strong plus.
Able to travel across rough mountainous terrain on foot and/or by operating 4-wheel drive or AWD vehicles.


Compensation

$120 per week stipend.
No housing offered.
Academic course credit highly recommended.
