About the Trust
Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT) was founded in 1992 and has protected over 20,000 acres of scenic vistas, open spaces, wildlife habitat, ranch and historic lands for the benefit for the community and as a legacy for future generations. Based in Evergreen, Colorado, we work in Clear Creek Park, Gilpin, Teller and Jefferson counties. The Trust holds Conservation Easements and manages 92 acres of the 500+ acres of the Pennsylvania Mountain Natural Area owned by Mountain Area Land Trust and others. In addition, MALT has protected nearly 6000 acres of important land through public projects including – Noble Meadow, Blair Ranch and Beaver Brook Watershed. Over the years, MALT has grown and expanded. Now, with a budget of nearly $400,000 and a staff of six, the Trust is poised for strategic expansion in the coming years.

MALT is financially sound and has a Board of Directors committed to taking a leadership role in conservation for the region. Twenty+ years of successful conservation work has earned the deep respect of the community. The Trust is perfectly positioned for an outstanding Development Director to help us lead the conservation efforts in the region.

The challenge here is to help MALT double our fundraising capabilities over the next two years. This is a tremendous opportunity for the right Development Director. Our development philosophy is different than most. We believe that if we build deep and lasting relationships, the money will follow. This is an opportunity to play a key role on our leadership team and to build a reputation as a conservation leader in the region.


The Job
We are searching for an experienced Development Director with proven success designing and executing a full range of philanthropic fundraising strategies. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director will be a key member of the Trust's leadership team. You will work with a committed team to deliver on the strategic goals of the Trust.

The Development Director is responsible for leading the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of the organization’s fundraising. Our development program is based on long-term relationship building that can sustain the organization in perpetuity. We place special emphasis on major and planned gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations. The trust also raises funds through government grants, special appeals, annual campaigns and special events.

You will:
Serve as a member of the Trust's leadership team and help grow and guide the organization
Design and manage the fundraising strategy, plan, calendar, and budget
Work closely with our Board of Directors, expand and manage the major individual-giving program, including the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and maintain a portfolio of individual major gift prospects and donors
Represent the Trust in a wide range of public presentations and partnerships
Design and implement innovative strategies to raise money through annual appeals
Plan and organize fundraising events
Oversee the production of all appropriate collateral material
Research, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation donors; oversee the creation and production of all fundraising materials, including letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and reports
Oversee the donor database system
Oversee the creation and production of all communications materials, including newsletters and marketing materials
Work with a committed staff to deliver on the strategic goals of the organization

Experience Requirements
Solid relationship-based fundraising experience, with proven success in the areas of individual, major donor and planned giving
Demonstrated ability to build, expand, and manage a development program responsible for $500,000 annually
Success in building strong foundation and corporate partnerships. Demonstrated success in cultivating, writing and landing significant grants.
Have a strong public presence – articulate, optimistic and energetic – with the ability to motivate and inspire people at all levels
Experience managing and motivating boards and volunteers for fundraising initiatives
Experience leading and managing people and working in a team based environment
Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience with donor database software (Salesforce strongly preferred) along with proficiency in MS Office, including PowerPoint and Excel
Strong financial skills, including the ability to integrate fundraising into the broader operational finance management; develop management reports that present a clear financial picture of fundraising activities; budgeting
Demonstrated experience with community outreach and communications
