We’ve all been there. A friend or a family member needs extra support in working through challenges in their lives, but you don’t feel like you can help as much as you want to.
1. Express your concern for their wellbeing, using examples
2. Remind them that everyone needs help sometimes and an
objective professional has the tools to work toward personal
improvement or desired change
3. Let them know that this problem is beyond your level of help
4. Share when you saw a therapist or considered it seriously
5. Assure them you will support their work with the therapist
7. If the person is concerned about the cost, remind them that
there are resources like sliding fee scales & health insurance
8. Ask how you can help getting them to a therapist. (It might be
sitting with them when they make the initial call, or going to
the therapist’s office, or deciding whom to see).
If the person follows through with seeing someone, acknowledge his or her courage in doing so. Peace Tree Counseling offers a reasonable sliding fee scale 720-320-8743
