ABOUT THE WORK UNIT
The Multi-Mission Aircraft (MMA) program was developed by the Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) as a tool to detect wildland fires early in order to provide relevant information that local, state, and federal fire managers can use to make informed decisions about how to best manage fire in their jurisdictions. It is also available during extended attack and large fire incidents to provide high quality data to fire managers that assists their decisions regarding risk management, tactics, and strategy. As a resource within the Department of Public Safety, it can also be utilized for non-fire missions such as search and rescue, natural disaster monitoring, and wildlife census activities.
The MMA is a Pilatus PC-12 aircraft, equipped with modern imaging and computer mission systems that allows the MMA Manager to collect still imagery and record videos as well as produce maps, all of which can then be delivered to fire managers and ground firefighters to enhance their situational awareness. Most products are created while in flight, and delivered to users in near real time. The aircraft is typically staffed with a pilot and two MMA Managers, which allows for efficiencies in workload and teamwork.
And, more information about the MMA program can be found here at
