9Health Fair coming to Evergreen April 25, 26

Mountain-area residents and visitors can take part in the 9Health Fair April 25 and 26 (Wednesday and Thursday), from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. each morning, at the Evergreen Elks Lodge (27972 Iris Dr.). The site will be organized and hosted by Mt. Evans Home Health and Hospice.

Several free screenings will be available to adults 18 and older, including blood pressure, skin cancer, oral cancer, mental health, spinal health, diabetes, nutrition, hearing, and vision. “Body in Balance,” a perennial favorite administered by local physical therapists, evaluates flexibility, strength and balance to help prevent injuries to the neck, back, knees, ankles, feet and other areas.

For moderate fees, the Mt. Evans site will provide a Blood Chemistry screening ($30), a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test for men ($25), Vitamin D screening ($40) and a Blood Count screening that checks white and red blood cells, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit value, and platelet count ($15). A colon cancer screening kit is available for $20. Credit cards are not accepted; plan to pay by cash or personal check.

Participants desiring the Blood Chemistry Screening must fast for 12 hours before the blood draw—black coffee and plain tea are allowed (no cream or sugar), and drinking lots of water is encouraged. All prescribed medications should be taken, and diabetics should not fast.

Participants with serious health issues are notified by volunteer nurses and doctors within 72 hours of their 9Health Fair visit and encouraged to seek immediate medical attention. Follow-up resources are available for those with little or no health insurance.
