Whooping Cough Epidemic Prompts Jeffco To Offer Free Shots
September 11, 2012

This summer brought a whooping cough epidemic to Colorado and now there’s a push to get more adults vaccinated.

The official name is pertussis. It’s a wheezing cough that can leave a child gasping for air. It can also be deadly, especially for infants.

The epidemic has prompted Jefferson County’s health department to offer free shots for child care workers.

Jefferson County will have a clinic Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Lakewood offices, 260 South Kipling Street.

From the Mountain Resource Center:

In response to the current Whooping Cough / Pertussis outbreak in Colorado, the MRC Pediatric Health Clinic is offering TDAP and DTAP vaccinations for only $14.50 for children and youth ages 0 – 18 who do not have health insurance. For more information call 303-838-8035 to make your appointment. Call today and don’t delay!

But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
