Evergreen 9Health Fair: New day, new time, new location

01 Apr 2014 10:57 #1 by MountEvansHomeHealthCareandHospice
Mountain-area residents and visitors can take part in the 9Health Fair Saturday, May 10 from 7 a.m. to noon at Bergen Valley Elementary School, 1422 Sugarbush Dr., Evergreen. The fair will be organized and hosted by Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice.

Several free screenings will be available to adults 18 and older, including blood pressure, stress management, spinal health, nutrition and height/weight/body mass index (BMI). “Body in Balance,” a perennial favorite administered by local physical therapists, evaluates flexibility, strength and balance to help prevent injuries to the neck, back, knees, ankles, feet and other areas.

For moderate fees, the Mount Evans site will provide a Blood Chemistry screening ($30), a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test for men ($25), Hemoglobin A1c ($25), Vitamin D screening ($40) and a Blood Count screening that checks white and red blood cells, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit value, and platelet count ($15). A colon cancer screening kit is available for $20.

Online registration is available prior to the fair at http://www.9healthfair.org/findafair (credit card payment only). You can also register on-site the days of the fair (cash and personal check only).

Participants desiring the Blood Chemistry Screening must fast for 12 hours before the blood draw—black coffee and plain tea are allowed (no cream or sugar), and drinking lots of water is encouraged. All prescribed medications should be taken, and diabetics should not fast.

Blood test results are mailed within four weeks to participants who have registered on-site. Online registrants will receive their results electronically delivered to a secure account within two weeks of attending the fair. Follow-up resources are available for those with little or no health insurance.
