Selling Gold, old jewelry, etc - things to consider.

Valuable information:

If you are looking to sell your old broken jewelry, silver, gold or platinum, please consider the following:

1. Ensure you are receiving at least 60% of spot based upon Karat (percentage of 100% gold) and weight.

2. Ask the buyer/business what Percent of "Spot" they pay, they should be able to easily provide you an answer, otherwise someone is playing games. Personally - I would not use a business who plays such games and there are plenty who do not provide direct answers up front to that question.

3. Ask and ensure they are using a Colorado State Certified Scale that is licensed. If not, unlicensed scales have been known to be inaccurate. Certified scales will have a State of Colorado Tested and Approved sticker normally on the bottom of the sale. Just like when you buy Gas, you want the pump to provide a gallon for each gallon purchased, when selling Gold, you want the items to be properly weighed with a certified scale.

4. Ensure they test and weigh the items in front of you. We do not recommend mailing your gold jewelry to some other place across the US. Keep business local and it is to your advantage.

5. Make an appointment to business/buyer to sell your gold. That way you know they are dedicating some of their day just to ensure your transaction is properly handled.

6. Ensure Checks written are drawn on local banking companies, such as local banks or credit unions. Most often payment is made with checks, so to limit liability of carrying so much cash around for both the customer selling and the buyer/business.

7. Ensure you have method to contact the buyer, in case there are other items you desire to sell or issues that come up.

8. Just because an item is marked 18K, does not always mean it really is 18K Gold, same with 14K. Understand that until the gold is tested and validated to the actual Karat (percentage of 100% pure Gold - 24K), you may find the item is under Karated (says 14K but really is 12K) or may not be gold at all. Yes - many have found items are Marked, but turn out to be Gold plated, heavy gold plated, gold filled, but not solid gold. This is why you want accurate testing and accurate weighing.

9. Colorado State Law requires gold buyers/businesses who is purchasing old Gold/jewelry to document the items, turn the documentation into the local Police/Sheriff to allow checking and validation items are not stolen. Additionally all gold buyers/business are legally required to hold such items for minimally 30 days, at which time gold prices/precious metal prices could go up or down as we all have seen lately (just last week, it dropped $100 within two days and today it is up $48... who knows...). If the items are stolen, the business/buyer is out the items and has lost all involved in the purchase. Thus there are certainly risks for the buyers/businesses. The documentation process, although has risks for buyers, certainly is there to help protect our communities and such from theft and melt of stolen property.

Yes, our business - http://www.CashForGoldColorado.com does buy old Gold Jewelry, scrap and broken gold, Silver and platinum. Also we do make offers on Diamonds, depending upon size, etc of course.

Yes, we do make personal appointments and often come to meet in public place, businesses or homes as desired by our clients.

Yes, we do pay minimally 60% of Spot for all gold purchases.

What is 60% of Spot - with Gold at $1872.70 (this very second):

10K - 5 grams would be $75.32
14K - 5 grams would be $105.31
18K - 5 grams would be $135.47
22K - 5 grams would be $165.63

24K is pure gold. 22K is 91.7% gold, 18K is 75% gold, 14K is 58.5% gold, and 10K is 41.7% gold.

I hope the above helps you. Any questions, please ask.
