Horse Insurance - Do You Have It? Thought About It?

We know there are a lot of choices out there for equine insurance. Personally some of our veterinarians have have great experiences with Markell. We were excited to see that they now include an additional $2500 of coverage towards colic surgery for no additional cost. So for $154/year you can get surgical coverage for up to $5000 with only a $50 deductible and an additional $2500 towards colic surgery. (This is in addition to mortality coverage based on the insured value of the horse). This is a great deal and can make a huge difference in the event of a major surgery. We know insurance can be a confusing topic, so we'd like to open up to any questions you may have about equine insurance, or let you share your recommendations for insurance companies that you have used/liked in the past. Feel free to call or email us anytime, or post a response on our Facebook page !

Does the insurance cover things like shots, worming and teeth floats?

Hello MountainDollar!

Apologies for the delay in replying.

Insurance plans do not include routine care such as vaccines, deworming or dentistry. They usually only cover mortality and major medical and/or surgery depending on the policy. Some practices, like ours, will cover the "wellness plans", that for a set price include many of the routine procedures such as teeth, vaccines, deworming, wellness exam, Coggins test.

Thanks,
Dr. Shannon Harland
