School’s out, and now’s the time for family and friends to gather for that great American tradition: the backyard barbecue. Grilling burgers and enjoying cold drinks in the warm summer sun are favorite pastimes, but what if the fun comes indoors? The experts at STAINMASTER® carpet offer some simple cleaning solutions to help you avoid summertime stains.

For charcoal:
Sudsy Foam
Mix 1/4 cup liquid dish detergent (with no optical brightners) in one cup of warm water. Using a whisk or beater, whip the solution until you have created a sudsy foam. Use only the foam on the carpet. Note: It may be necessary to increase the amount of detergent to get enough suds to create foam.

For ketchup, soft drinks
and beer:
Detergent Solution
Mix 1/4 teaspoon mild liquid dish detergent (with no optical brightners) in one cup of warm water.

Vinegar Solution
Mix two tablespoons clear, white non-suds ammonia in four cups of warm water.

For mustard:
Detergent Solution
Mix 1/4 teaspoon mild liquid dish detergent (with no optical brightners) in one cup of warm water.

BASIC CLEANING STEPS:

1. Scoop up and blot as much of the spill as possible.
2. Vacuum any dry particles.
3. Prepare suggested cleaning solutions, beginning with the first one listed.
4. Pretest the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous spot of carpet to ensure it does not discolor or damage the carpet.
5. Apply the cleaning solution to the stain area. Work from the outside of the stain toward the center.
6. Allow the cleaning solution to remain on the spill for at least five minutes.
7. Blot with a clean white cloth until no more stain transfers to the cloth. Do not rub the stain area or you might damage the carpet fibers.
8. Rinse with cold water. Be sure all cleaning solution is removed from the carpet.
9. If you can still see the stain, repeat the process until either the stain is removed or the stain no longer transfers to the cloth.
10. If the stain remains, try the next solution on the list and follow the same protocol above. If the stain persists after trying each of the solutions, contact a professional cleaner.
11. Once the stain is removed, place layers of white paper towel on the site to absorb any moisture. Weight down the towels with a non-staining glass or ceramic object. You can let them sit overnight
12. When the carpet is dry, vacuum to restore the texture.
13. Have your carpet professionally cleaned every 24 months, as required by the STAINMASTER® carpet limited warranty.

Try this.....For Red Wine

Step 1

Blot the spill with paper towels or a clean cloth.

Step 2

Combine 1 teaspoon carpet shampoo (or dish soap, like Dawn) and 1 cup hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl. Soak a clean sponge in the mixture, squeeze it halfway dry, then gently blot the stain. Continue until the stain lifts.

Step 3

Sponge the stained area with warm water.

Step 4

Blot dry with a clean cloth or paper towels.

Most organic stains on your carpet can be removed with products that you have around your home. Club Soda, Vinegar and Peroxide are great for stain removal and do not generally remove you your stain protection.

Just a warning. Animal accidents are excluded on your carpet warranty.

The best protection is to invest in a Stainmaster Pad. It has a moisture barrier that prevents pet stains from getting into your pad and sub-flooring which is actually what causes odors in your home.

Depending on the kind of accident....Remove the offensive material with toilet paper or paper towels. If it is Urine...place a towel on the area and apply pressure and soak the urine up. Complete this process until the towel is dry after this step.
Lightly spray the area with water. I keep a water bottle handy all the time.
Repeat the blotting process until the towel is dry again.
Repeat this until you feel you have removed all of the urine or stool.

NEVER RUB YOUR CARPET
You are actually rubbing a stain in rather than out.

How do we clean up those Back To School Stains?

Ace Carpet Care With the Back to School Stain Removal Guide

STAINMASTER® carpet Provides Expert Carpet Care Lessons

ATLANTA (August 10, 2006) - The Back to School Stain Removal Guide for STAINMASTER® carpet is designed to handle a science fair project gone awry and other back to school blunders. This STAINMASTER® carpet stain removal guide teaches easy, foolproof carpet-cleaning methods for a perfect grade with beautiful carpet.

For ink, crayon, felt-tip marker and rubber cement: Prepare a dry cleaning fluid solution using non-flammable dry cleaning fluid or a liquid spot remover from the grocery store or hardware store. (Note: Do not apply dry cleaning fluid directly to carpet. Apply first to a cloth and use the cloth to apply the fluid to the stain.) A detergent solution will also work well. Mix ¼ teaspoon of mild liquid dish soap with one cup of warm water.

For chalk: Mix ¼ cup of liquid dish detergent in one cup of warm water. Using a whisk or beater, whip the solution until you have created a sudsy foam. Use only the foam on the carpet. (Note: It may be necessary to increase the amount of detergent to generate enough suds to create the foam.)

For white glue: Prepare a detergent solution by mixing ¼ teaspoon of mild liquid dish soap with one cup of warm water. To create an ammonia solution, mix two tablespoons clear, white non-suds ammonia and four cups warm water.

Stain Removal Instructions: Before tackling most stains, promptly scoop up and blot, don't rub, as much of the spill as possible, then vacuum up any dry particles. Prepare the recommended cleaning solution for each stain, allowing the solution to remain on the spill for at least five minutes. Pre-test the solution on an inconspicuous spot of carpet, then apply the cleaning solution to the stain area, working from the outside of the stain toward the center. Rinse with cold water, blot away the excess cleaning solution, then vacuum when dry. Very good question.

Stainmaster is actually a physical yarn type. 6.6 nylon. It is a patented nylon that is far superior to 6.0 nylon or polyester.

Mills actually buy "Stainmaster" yarn to manufacture into carpet. With that purchase of SM yarn comes a very strict set of standards on how the yarn can be tufted, twisted and dyed. Stainmaster uses a product called Lotus FX to protect your carpet from soiling and staining. It is a far superior product to scotchguard and protects your carpet in a completely different way.
When you purchase a Stainmaster carpet, you are actually purchasing a complete yarn system that out performs any other fiber in the industry.
Carpet Direct offers you Stainmaster carpet at 1/2 the price of our closest competitor.
Hope I answered your question.

When you clean your carpet, does it look clean while it is wet but then dries and the stains return?

It may not be your carpet that is dirty.
Whatever lands on our carpet ends up in our pad. (even pet urine)
When we clean our carpet, if we get to much water on the carpet, it is sucked into the pad. As the carpet dries, the stain in the pad actually leaches back up into the carpet.
Sometimes you can replace the pad in the affected area or all of your pad and then have your carpet clean, resulting in a beautiful outcome. This is especially true if you have purchased a high quality Stainmaster carpet.
Another way of not having this problem is to purchase a Stainmaster pad with your Stainmaster carpet purchase. Stainmaster will add an additional three year warranty when you combine those two products.
