Laws About Transporting Guns - Best Way to Do So?

I am being given 2 antique (but working) guns from family and I'm not sure what I need to do to get them from Maine to Colorado. I've heard it's possible to put them in checked luggage, but one is a rifle so wouldn't fit in a suitcase. Would they need to be registered before they travel? Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. Website where I can research would be fine too. Thank you!

They don't need to be registered. But the guns will need to be put in a lockable airline approved hard case. Might be easier and cheaper to see if Green Mountain Guns or another FFL will receive the shipment for a modest fee via USPS, UPS, or FedEx.
