Freedom Run 5K: A mountain family favorite for 31 years

KICK OFF THE FOURTH OF JULY AT EVERGREEN’S 31st ANNUAL FREEDOM RUN 5K

Attention walkers and runners of all ages! Don’t miss the 31st annual Freedom Run 5K benefiting Mt. Evans Home Health & Hospice in Evergreen. Whether you walk, run, stroll, or cheer from the sidelines, the Freedom Run is a great way to kick off your Fourth of July. And the event doesn’t end at the finish line—after the race, participants and their families and friends are invited to enjoy refreshments, music, games and fun at Nick’s Pro Fitness. Prizes will be awarded at the beginning of the awards ceremony for the best-dressed dog and best-decorated stroller.

Major sponsors of the event are New West Physicians, Ades Design, Allen Technology Advising and Wells Fargo Advisors, with all proceeds benefiting Mt. Evans.

The scenic 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) course follows gently rolling terrain through residential areas, beginning at Evergreen Middle School at 8:00 a.m.. Free child care will be provided at Nick’s Pro Fitness from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Space is limited to 20 children; call Mt. Evans at 303-674-6400 to make a child-care reservation.

Online registration at http://www.mtevans.org is encouraged, and will save participants $2 off the registration fee. Walk-in registration will be available June 21 through July 3 at Mt. Evans Home Health & Hospice (3801 Bergen Peak Dr., Evergreen) and Boone Mountain Sports (2962 Evergreen Parkway, Evergreen), and race-day registration begins at 6:45 a.m. July 4 at the start line. Mail-in registration forms will be available at most Denver and Boulder running stores after June 15. Those wishing to save time on race day can pick up their t-shirt, bib and timing chip at Mt. Evans on Tuesday, July 3, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to collect pledges for Mt. Evans, and prizes will be awarded to the top ten pledge-gatherers. Pledge forms are available online at http://www.mtevans.org or by calling 303-674-6400.

The entry fee for participants registering online is $30 for adults and $15 for children under 15. Fee for paper registration is $32 adults, $16 children. Registration fee on race day $35 for adults and $20 for children.

Funds raised by the Freedom Run will help Mt. Evans care for underinsured or uninsured patients as well as support numerous services provided by Mt. Evans, including grief counseling, transportation for patients to medical appointments, respite care for family caregivers, and Camp Comfort, a bereavement camp for children.
