Dance incorporates kinaesthetic, aural and visual learning styles that can support any school subject from science to math to English. For example: students can re-create what happens when a volcano erupts with sound and movement or use their bodies to illustrate mathematical word problems. Creating a narrative through movement brings the story to life. In all classrooms, dance can be used to highlight topics or it can be the focus of the learning. The history of dance is a vast subject within itself that spans across continents and cultures. From folk dance to Broadway, movement is a part of human nature. - (Wendy Westwood, Daytime Program Director at Peak Academy of Dance, has taught dance in many settings over the last 15 years from public schools, private schools, dance studios, and community events. As a school teacher, she uses dance regularly in her classroom and has made these observations of dance in education.)
Supplement your curriculum by including a session of Home-School Dance Classes at Peak Academy of Dance with experienced dance professionals who can bring your topic of study to life with accurate dance technique and creative choreography.
Classes run in 5-week sessions that allow the students to develop a foundation of contemporary ballet technique while exploring topics that they are covering in their other schooling. Experienced teachers incorporate multiple dance disciplines (tap, jazz, modern, poms) into choreography that is showcased at the end of the session. Interested students have the opportunity to perform in the winter and spring recitals.
Content of each session is specifically designed for the students enrolled in that class. Peak is also willing to develop specific dance programs for your family or support group if you need something more tailored to a particular schedule or curriculum.
