What is the YWC?
The Mountain Area Young Writers' Conference is a celebration of student writing. In 1998, the National Writing Commission on Writing in America’s Schools issued a call to launch a writing revolution in our country’s schools. This call was answered fifteen years ago in Jefferson County with the foundation of the Mountain Area Young Writers' Conference (MTAYWC).
The MTAYWC was founded by a dedicated group of teachers and educators who saw the importance of developing the writing abilities and enjoyment of writing in all mountain area students. Since then more than 4,500 students have participated in our annual free conference.
At the MTAYWC:
** Students share their published writing with their peers
and teacher facilitators
** Parents attend a wide variety of educational sessions
designed to provide information about various writing
disciplines in which to help their children gain skills.
** Students and parents hear about the experiences of
professional authors and illustrators from across the
country.
** Students leave with ideas to improve their writing
skills and a renewed passion for words.
