Here's what's coming up in October at the Conifer Public Library!

Every Saturday in October - Family Time, 10:45 am - Everyone is invited for stories, singing, rhyming and dancing.

10/3 - Better Pet Parenting: A Series for Responsible Pet Ownership - The Human/Animal Abuse Connection, 6:00 pm - Are you aware of the high correlation between animal abuse and other violent behaviors? Research shows violence to animals is a strong predictor of violence and abuse to people. Learn about the connection and ways to prevent it.

10/4 - Star Wars Reads Day, 3:30 pm - May the 4th be with you! Take part in Star Wars Reads Day with fun crafts and activities!

10/4 - Conifer Meditation Group, 6:30 pm - Take your mind to another place and find peace, happiness, and bliss. This local meditation group in the Conifer/Bailey/Evergreen area is open to anyone interested in meditating regularly in a group setting. No previous meditation experience is required. We don't focus on a particular meditation format, but instead sample a variety of methods as different group members lead a 20-30 minute group meditation at each gathering. Please bring a cushion, mat or pillow if you don't want to sit on a chair. Anyone present can start the session and awaken the group at the end.

10/8 - LEGO® Play & Build, 1:00 pm - Calling all LEGO® fans! Builders of all ages are welcome to build your own creation. What story will you tell? We provide the LEGO® bricks and LEGO DUPLO® for younger kiddos.

10/10 - The Art House, 6:00 pm - Get your art on at our ongoing open workshop. Not a Rembrandt? Not to worry because we invite all skill levels to learn how to better use the visual vocabulary of shape, value, color, line, texture and edges. Led by Evergreen artist Chris McAllister, we'll explore these concepts in still life, landscape, portrait and figure paintings. Bring in a project you’re already working on or join in on a group project. You're welcome to work in oil or acrylic paints; simply bring your own painting supplies. Our ongoing classes are designed for continuous learning in an open, individualized environment. New students are welcome at any time. Come paint the town, well, whatever color you want.

10/14 - Psychic Medium Afternoon, 1:00 pm - What do the cards say? Psychic medium Rick Finbow is on deck to talk about readings Tarot Cards and how they can help you focus on your intuition, mediumship and connecting to the other side. You may even receive a 5-minute reading.

10/18 - Game On!, 3:00 pm - Stop twiddling your thumbs and break the daily monotony and get your game on! We have games but encourage you to bring your own to challenge friends (and make new ones!)

10/18 - Conifer Meditation Group, 6:30 pm

10/21 - Beer Pint Glass Etching, 1:00 pm - Customize your own beer pint glass using our glass etching technique. Glass etching cream can be messy, so please dress accordingly. 10/27 - The Night Sky, 6:00 pm - The night sky comes alive when you look through telescopes with the Lookout Mountain Nature Center at Conifer Library. See the moon and some of our planets like you've never seen them before. Enjoy a presentation on space missions and night photography by an aerospace engineer who designs satellites for Lockheed Martin. Then use the telescopes and see what you can find.

10/28 - Wild Things, 11:30 am - Things get a little wild when Lookout Mountain Nature Center joins us for a story and show 'n' tell time. Kids will do an activity to reinforce the story that focuses on the natural world around us - prairies, wetlands, woods, weather, and more! Also, they might meet a live snake or touch a real animal pelt!
