July Events at the Conifer Public Library

01 Jul 2018 10:18 #1 by ConiferPublicLibrary
We are halfway through 2018 now and halfway through our Summer Reading challenge! Keep logging your minutes read and come in to the library to pick up your milestone prizes! We've got some excellent presenters coming to the library this month. Jeffco Open Space rangers will be doing a talk about how to best protect your home this fire season and educators from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science will be teaching children how to use their senses just like a wild animal! Here's what's coming up at the Conifer Library in July:

Every Saturday in July - Family Time, 10:45 am - Everyone is invited for stories, singing, rhyming and dancing.

7/3 - The Art House, 6:00 pm - Paint the town any color you'd like with Evergreen artist Chris McAllister. He'll help you discover how to better use the visual vocabulary of shape, value, color, line, texture and edges. Explore these concepts in still life, landscape, portrait and figure paintings. Not an artist? No worries. All skill levels are welcome to learn. Bring in a project you're already working on or join a group project. Work in oil or acrylic paints, just bring your own painting supplies. Our ongoing classes are designed for continuous learning in an open, individualized environment. New students are welcome any time.

7/7- Henna Tattoos, 1:00 pm - Decorate yourself with the ancient art of henna. Create your own design or use one of our templates. Materials supplied.

7/8 - LEGO® Play & Build, 1:00 pm - Calling all LEGO® fans! Builders of all ages are welcome to build your own creation. What story will you tell? We provide the LEGO® bricks and LEGO DUPLO® for younger kiddos.

7/12 – Jeffco Rocks the Outdoors: Wildfire Mitigation for Homeowners, 6:00 pm - Rangers from Jefferson County Open Space cover a variety of topics on wildlife, hiking and getting the most out of our wide open spaces!
Today's topic: Wildfire Mitigating for Homeowners - Discover things you can do to protect your home and property from wildfires.

7/14 – Let’s Dance, 11:30 am - Let's dance! Shake those wiggles out and have some fun building little brains! All families are welcome.

7/16 – Sound Effects Lab, 3:00 pm - And the Oscar for best sound effects in a motion picture goes to - you! Explore how sound effects are created with everyday items, then add them into a short video clip. Create a creepy experience watching cute bunnies or maybe make a battle scene comical with the addition of unique sound effects.
Registration not required. Limit 30.

7/17 – The Art House, 6:00 pm

7/18- Conifer Meditation Group, 6:30 pm - Guide your mind to a place of peace, happiness, and bliss. The Conifer/Bailey/Evergreen area meditation group is open to anyone interested in meditating regularly in a group setting. No previous meditation experience is required. We don't focus on a particular meditation format, but instead sample a variety of methods as different group members lead a 20-30 minute group meditation at each gathering. Please bring a cushion, mat or pillow if you don't care to sit on a chair. Anyone present can start the session and awaken the group at the end.
Held on the first and third Wednesday of the month.

7/19 – Top Hogs, 4:30 pm - Meet some Rock Star pigs who love to entertain and delight an audience. It's action packed comedy for the whole family!

7/21 – Wild Senses, 1:00 pm & 2:00 pm - Little learners take on animal behaviors to experience the natural world around them, as animals would. An adventurous Denver Museum of Nature & Science educator guides explorers as they smell out their food like a squirrel, hunt in the dark like a raccoon, and use infrared detection to see prey like a snake. Amaze and delight your animals - er, kids - with pretend play and fun.

7/25 – Magic Music, 5:00 pm - Potentially noisy, definitely fun. Discover uncommon sounds made from common objects like gloves and note cards. Make a buzz or a boom in the library laboratory.

7/31 – The Art House, 6:00 pm

7/31 - Book Group, 6:30 pm - Discuss great reads. New members always welcome! Tonight we discuss Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward.
