Spring Break is here and Staunton State Park would like to invite you and your family to spend some quality time at our wonderful park!
Come visit Staunton tomorrow, Wednesday March 27th, and start your day off with a 11:00 am class for your children on identifying the many tree species within the park. Our volunteer Education Team members will be instructing this free learning experience. After the 1-1.5 hour class, find a picnic table and eat lunch (on your own). Then, use the park map to plan a family hike. Staunton has a 30+ mile trail network where you can hike, snowshoe, or mountain bike in this 3,000 acre park.
Our suggestion for a family hike would be the Davis Ponds Trail Loop. It is a beautiful 2 miles roundtrip hike on a wide and relatively flat, hiker only interpretative trail with lots to see along the way. Upon park entry, ask the attendant for a free Davis Ponds Interpretive Trail pamphlet.
The class will begin at the Ranch Hand Group Picnic Area (GPA) promptly at 11:00. It’s open to all school age children. The experience will be held outside, and will involve a short hike to identify trees - so please be sure your kids are dressed for the weather, have sunscreen and water. Attend the session with them, if you’d like. There is no need to register for the class, just use your parks pass to enter the park and meet at the GPA.
