Summer Reading blasts into action, and it’s bringing a swarm of space-themed fun along with it! Some events may ask for registration; information can be found on JCPL’s website . :silly:

6/1 – Summer Reading Kick-off Party, 10:30am
Celebrate the start of Summer Reading with an out-of-this-world party! Make your own moon sand and alien slime and enjoy other games, activities, and snacks. Crafts and snacks while supplies last.

6/4 – Invisible Forces, 4:00pm/5:00pm/6:00pm (three sessions)
Presented by the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, race against the clock and use the invisible forces around you to uncover mysterious codes and secrets. The Library becomes a physics laboratory where you can build, experiment and complete hands-on challenges to reveal the physics behind sound waves, air pressure and electricity. Let the adventure begin!

6/5 – Blast Off! Apollo Art, 4:30pm
Let your imagination soar with an awesome Apollo themed project from Abrakadoodle! Kids 5-10 will create a moon landing themed work of art that will be out of this world...but could be a little messy!

6/8 – A Petting Zoo Afternoon in the Mountains, 1:00pm
Meet some animal friends when the 4H club visits with its petting zoo extravaganza, outside the library.

6/8 – Hello World: 2MX2 Interactive Live Show, 2:00pm
Meet the bilingual pop and hip-hop group 2MX2, learn about the Latino roots that guide them, then play around with auto tune and enjoy a short performance.

6/9 – LEGO® Play & Build, 1:00 pm
Calling all LEGO® fans! Builders of all ages are welcome to drop in and build their own creations. What story will you tell? We provide the LEGO® bricks and LEGO DUPLO® for younger kids.

6/11 – The Art House, 6:00 pm
Evergreen artist Chris McAllister helps you discover how to better use the visual vocabulary of shape, value, color, line, texture and edges. Explore these concepts in still life, landscape, portrait and figure paintings. All skill levels are welcome. Bring in a project you’re already working on or join a group project. A limited amount of extra supplies is available, so please bring your own oil or acrylic paint supplies. New students welcome.

6/12 – Universe of Surprise with Magic Rob, 5:30pm
Anything goes during this hilarious and astonishing show. Rob teaches you amazing magic tricks, but if he goofs up you may need to use your own magic to help him out! Stunning visual magic, audience participation and live pets make this one of the unforgettable highlights of the summer.

6/14 – Celestial Henna for Teens and Adults, 5:30pm
Explore the art and history of henna with Henna Jes. Roll a cone, practice designs, then create a work of art on yourself or a friend! Ideal for Teens – Adults (16+).

6/15 – Discovery Play, 11:30 am
Let's play! Build STEM skills as you enjoy songs, stories and hands-on fun with your family. Keep the fun going with 1000 Books Before Kindergarten! Get your child ready to read by sharing books together. Read anything, even the same story over and over!

6/17 – Rocket Blast, 3:00pm
Go on a wild ride into the fascinating science of rockets and space exploration. Build and launch your own rocket and learn about the science and history of rockets.

6/18 – Alien Slime Lab, 6:30pm
Take an alien home and make glow-in-the-dark alien slime, moon dough and cloud dough in the Library’s laboratory. Potentially messy, always fun!

6/19 – Astronaut-ka-doodle, 5:30pm
Get messy with Abrakadoodle! Little ones age 18 months to four years of age create a universe where they are the astronaut. Take a photo to insert and share! Caregivers are encouraged to attend, but please only register the little artist.

6/20 – Faux Stained Glass, 6:00pm
Produce your own piece of stained-glass art using the glass from regular picture frames and paint!

6/22 – Rocket Tie-Dye, 1:00pm
Rocket into Summer Reading! Bring your own t-shirt, tank top, scarf, pillowcases or any material you want to tie-dye, and we’ll supply the rest. Dress for mess.

6/25 – The Art House, 6:00pm

6/25 – Prize-Winning Book Group, 6:30pm
Discuss great reads. New members always welcome!
Today's book: Educated by Tara Westover

6/27 – Printing with Sun Paper, 3:00pm
Create nature inspired art with a little help from the sun in the Library Laboratory. Possibly messy, always fun!

6/29 – Space Piñatas, 12:00pm
Decorate and take home your very own space-themed piñata! A professional piñata-maker teaches the steps and shares the cultural significance of these fun flying objects. Fill your piñata at home.
