Update Tue May 3

Very pleasant day today. Upper trough with associated cold front will move into northwest CO tonight and affect most of northern CO on Wednesday. Snow moves into the northwest and north central mountains overnight with snow level 6000-7000 ft. Showers are possible Wednesday afternoon along the foothills, mostly north of I-70, but possible down to US 50. Snow level will be 8000-9000 ft, but no accumulation outside of a quick dusting is expected. Showers could also produce some thunder with small hail or grauple. Shower activity should end by sunset.

Thursday and Friday will feature a warming trend with temps climbing above seasonal norms, and with gusty southwest winds developing. This trend is excpected to last into the weekend with above normal temps and breezy conditions, so fire danger will become high Thursday through Sunday. No precipitation expected during this period.

Next chance for precip currenltly looks like Monday into Tuesday when a weak upper trough and associated cold front affect CO.

Pretty unstable airmass in place today which is leading to showers and thunderstorms mostly along the foothills and Palmer Divide. Snow level between 6000-7000 ft, so some light accumulations are possible today in heavier showers. Showers are moving towards the southeast, so showers will affect western parts of the Urban Corridor this afternoon as well. Hail, Grauple, lightning and snow all possible in these showers today. Shower activity should end by sunset, with breezy conditions tonight into Tuesday morning.

For the remainder of the week, mostly tranquil weather. Mostly sunny and mild on Tuesday. A weak upper trough and associated cold front will skirt the northern border on Wednesday, and bring a chance for isolated showers across northern CO, mostly north of I-70. Thursday and Friday look mostly sunny and warm, with some gusty winds at times on Friday, which will cause an increase in the fire danger.

Upcoming weekend also looks mostly sunny, warm and breezy at times, so a return to increased level of fire danger for our foothills. According to the lomg range models, next chance for precip will be early next week.
