Slightly better chances for afternoon and evening thunderstorms today, but still of the isolated variety. Friday still looks mostly sunny and dry.
Models have been fairly consistent in bringing additional moisture into CO over the weekend, so chances for afternoon and evening storms increase Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday looking like the wetter of the two days. Storms could also be slow moving so localized flash flooding is possible where stronger storms develop.
Next week, Monday through Wednesday look mostly dry with only isolated afternoon and evening storms, and warmer temps. Latest model guidance then suggests a more favorable monsoon flow will develop towards the end of next week, which would increase chances for thunderstorms as upper High is forecast to shift into the TX panhandle region. This pattern is favorable to bring monsoonal moisture north from Mexico into CO, and keep baking the southern plains. The only thing to ease the drought there will be a significant tropical storm or hurricane, but nothing currently suggests a tropical system to enter the Gulf of Mexico in the near future. Models do predict a possible tropical storm or hurricane in the Atlantic next week but keep the track away from the U.S., and would only skirt the eastern Canadian maritime provinces late next week.
