wxgeek's weather-Early Fall Weather Dry and Warm

After a weak cold frontal passage Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday will be cool with only a slight chance for isolated afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms. Better chances appear to be Wednesday afternoon/evening along the southern foothills and Palmer Divide. Some low clouds and fog is possible Tuesday night and Wednesday morning along the foothills under a weak upslope flow, but clouds should be below 7500-8500 ft.

As Summer comes to a close and Fall begins, it appears our weather will remain relatively dry and warm. Temps from Thursday through the weekend will be above seasonal norms and little if any precipitation is expected. Aspen leaves are just beginning to turn in most areas, so a great weekend to get out and see the early color.

Long range progs indicate that an upper level ridge will remain over the Inter-Mountain region through the end of September, which should keep temps at or above seasonal norms and limit any precipitation to just isolated showers and thunderstorms. So a pretty tranquil start to Fall appears to be in order, and it looks like our fist snow of the season will wait until October. This will be the second consecutive year with no snow in September, which is well past our average first snow date of Sep 20 on Conifer Mountain.

Models indicate an eastern Pacific hurricane will move up the western Mexico coast late next week and bring some significant moisture to southern AZ, NV and CA. If the upper ridge shifts eastward at all, then we could see some of this moisture, but models currently keep it all to our west. The Atlantic still remains pretty active for late season tropicals, so would not be surprised to see activity in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico continue into early October.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!
