A Happy St. Valentines Day to all. Snow beginning to move into the mountains west of the Divide. Snow will continue into tonight in the mountains, with heaviest snow being west of Vail Pass. Some light snow or flurries are possible in the foothills and Urban Corridor this afternoon into Wednesday morning, but little if any accumulation expected.
Models now in better agreement for the remainder of this week. Next Pacific system will dig into northern Baja later this week, which will keep most snow well south of CO. The mountains west of the Divide may see some light snow or flurries Wednesday through Friday, but only light accumulations expected. Temps should remain at or below seasonal norms through Friday.
For the weekend, Saturday should be warmer and mostly dry across the state. Models suggest a stronger system from the Pacific Northwest will begin to move into western CO Saturday night bringing snow west of Vail Pass. Snow is expected to move east during the day on Sunday affecting all of the mountains. As cold front pushes east the foothills and Plains may see some light snow Sunday afternoon/evening, but again any accumulation is expected to be on the light side.
For next week, the storm track remains active but will move to the north of CO so that strong northwest flow aloft will keep snow going in the mountains west of the Divide and favor the northern and central mountains. Foothills look to be warmer, mostly dry with some gusty westerly winds early next week. There appears to be better chances for snow in the foothills by later next week.
Long range models indicate the chance for a more significant upslope storm the following week, but as we know long range progs are not very accurate.
