wxgeek's weather-Warm and Dry Weather to Continue

22 Mar 2012 14:35 #1 by RenegadeCJ
Rain in eastern CO confined to an area east of a line from Sterling to Pueblo, and doubt it will make much farther west. Rain should diminish by evening. For the remainder of CO, mostly sunny skies and warming temps today. As the upper low currently over KS moves east, an upper ridge will build into CO bringing sunny skies and very wam temps Friday through Monday. Temps this wekend will be near or above records for the date, so some 10-20 degrees above average. Should be a great weekend to be outside.

With the loss of snow cover in may areas, fire danger will be on the rise in the foothills, and already a concern on the Plains. With warm temps this weekend and more outdoor activity, concern grows. An upper trough will pass to the west and north of CO on Monday, which will cause a big increase in westerly winds on Monday, with speeds in the 20-45 mph range, so expect red flag conditions Monday afternoon. Weak cold front will pass MOnday night which will cool temps back to near seasonal norms on Tuesday and less wind but still breezy. The rest of next week remains dry across the state with temps above seasonal norms through the end of March. This will go down as one of the warmest and driest March in CO history.

Long range models indicate the possibility of an upper level trough moving over CO the first week of April and could linger for a few days, so we could see some precip and cooler temps the first week of April.

Sun Mar 25

Upper level trough currently bringing rain to CA will move quickly northeast on Monday skirting the northwest portion of CO. Some showers possible across northwest CO Monday with snow level around 7000-8000 ft, but dry, warm and windy conditions will prevail across the rest of the state. Southwest winds will increase during the day on Monday, with speeds of 25-50 mph possible Monday afternoon into Monday night. Combination with warm temps and low RH will create red flag conditions Monday afternoon and evening. Since downed power lines are a possibility, fire danger will be critical on Monday, so pls be careful with any ignition sources. Fire danger should be lower the remainder of the week, although we will see continued warm and dry conditions Tuesday through this coming weekend. No precip is forecast until early next week when an upper trough is forecast to settle over CO that could bring unsettled weather for a few days.
