Update Mon Mar 4

Cold front swept south across eastern CO early this morning, and shallow upslope flow up to about 8000 ft provided some very light snow mostly across the metro area. A second surge of cold air is currently near the CO/WY border and will move south during the day. This band is expected to provide some light snow accumulations across the foothills and Urban Corridor this afternoon. Amounts generally a trace to 1 inch through the Urban Corridor and up to 2-3 inches across the foothills and Palmer Divide is possible. Snow should dissipate this evening, by around 6-9 pm. I believe roads below 6000-7000 ft will only be wet from this system, while some slush and snow could impact the evening commute above 6500-7500 ft.

Warm and dry conditions expected Tuesday through Thursday. Next system going through the usual model differences, but there is the potential for a significant snow event Friday-Sunday across eastern CO. Stay tuned for updates as the track and intensity of this system becomes more defined later this week.
Warm and breezy to windy day on tap today across the foothills. System will move across the northern Rockies today and bring snow to western CO this afternoon into Monday. Snow will become heavy west of the Divide late this afternoon into tonight, where 5-12 inches of new snow expected and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect. For the foothills and Urban Corridor, flow remains mostly westerly, so limited snow amounts. Cold front will drop south Monday morning, and best chances for snow will be from 6 am through 3 pm on Monday associated with cold front. Currently looks like between a dusting to 2 inches across the foothills and adjacent plains, with up to 3 inches possible in locally favored areas like Conifer/Shadow Mountain. Areas of the foothills and Palmer Divide have best chances for accumulations. Could be just enough snow to mess up the late morning commute. Snow should end Monday evening, followed by strong west to northwest winds Monday evening and night, so some blowing and drifting of snow possible in prone areas. Travel through the mountains could be difficult by later today into Monday, as strong westerly winds will also cause blowing and drifting and reduced visibilities.

Tuesday through Thursday will see an upper level ridge build back over the Inter-Mountain region, so warm temps and dry conditions expected across CO, with temps above seasonal norms by 5-15 degrees. Next system to affect CO will develop as an upper low and move south along the CA coast late this week, then move into AZ/NM over the weekend. Still a long ways out, and models will have differing solutions between now and then, but the track is a favorable one for a decent snow event across eastern CO from Friday into next weekend.
