Update Wed Oct 9

Upper level low currently over central CA will begin to move northeast tonight into the Great Basin and will move across CO Thursday as an open upper trough. Precip will begin to spread into western CO late tonight into Thursday morning with snow level 9000-10,000 ft. Precip will move east into eastern CO during the day on Thursday and continue across western CO with snow level lowering to near 7500 ft west of the Divide. Best chance for precip in the foothills will be Thursday afternoon and evening with snow level 9000 - 10,000 ft. Only very light amounts of precip expected east of the Divide, whereas 5-10 inches of snow possible west of the Divide above 9000 ft. Strong southwest winds aloft will be present ahead of this system tonight into Thursday morning that will create south to southwest surface winds of 15-35 mph. As cold front moves across the state on Thursday, winds will become west to northwest and temps will cool. Very strong westerly winds possible Thursday evening and night across the foothills and northeast plains with speeds 20-45 mph.

Some showers to persist on Friday across CO mostly west of the Divide, but some possible along the foothills and Urban Corridor west of I-25. Snow level expected to be near 8500 - 9500 ft on Friday, but little is any additional accumulation expected with winds decreasing through the day.

Weekend should be dry with warmer temps back near seasonal norms. Next system will move from the north into CO on Monday, with precip spreading from north to south across the state. Snow level expected to be near 8000 ft during the day lowering to near 6000 ft Monday night. Precip amounts still expected to be light, but mountain areas could see 2-5 inches, while foothills could see 1-3 inches of accumulation above 7500 ft.

Conditions clear on Tuesday with dry and warmer weather expected the remainder of next week into the following weekend.

Update Mon oct 7

Nice weather across the state today with temps back at or above seasonal norms. Lee surface trough expected to develop later today into Tuesday which will create some gusty south to southwest winds across the foothills and adjacent plains. Upper trough currently along the southern Alaska coast is forecast to move south along the west coast to central CA on Wednesday, then move east into the Great Basin and across CO on Thursday. Models remain consistent and in good agreement that precip will spread into western CO early Thursday morning into Thursday afternoon, and move east into eastern CO Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. Vast majority of precip with this system will remain west of the Divide, only light amounts expected east of the Divide. Snow level will be near 8000 ft western CO on Thursday, closer to 9000 ft in the foothills, but lowering to near 7000 ft Thursday night. Best chance for precip in the foothills will be Thursday afternoon and evening, but less than an inch of snow is expected at higher elevations. perhaps 3-7 inches for mountains west of the Divide. Much cooler temps Friday with a chance for lingering flurries with snow level 8000-9000 ft, and no additional accumulation expected.

Weekend weather currently looks very nice with dry weather and temps near seasonal norms. Next upstream system expected to move down from the north into CO early next week. Cold front comes through Monday night bringing much cooler air and some precip. Snow level expected to drop to near 5500 ft Monday night and Tuesday, although any precip amounts look to be on the light side, with anywhere between a dusting to an inch or two for most foothill locations. Warmer and drier weather expected next week Wednesday through the following weekend.

wxgeek. He is a local weather guy. He allows me to copy his info here to serve all of us who are ignored by the denver forecasters.
