Update Sun Jan 19

Beautiful weather across the state today with sunny skies and temps well above seasonal norms. Some breezy westerly winds likely this afternoon into tonight in the foothills. Dry and mild pattern expected to persist into early this week, then models suggest a back door cold front associated with a disturbance moving into the central U.S. will bring cooler temps and a chance for light snow to eastern CO Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon. Low clouds associated with upslope flow will push up against the foothills up to 8000 to 9000 ft with snow accumulations of up to an inch possible, so roads could be slick for the Thursday morning commute. After that, dry conditions and temps rise back above seasonal through next weekend.

Latest long range models indicate dry pattern will persist into the following week, but finally models have been consistent in changing the current blocking pattern in the eastern Pacific. Models suggest upper ridge will retrograde westward into the central Pacific and allow systems to move into the west coast and then progress into the central Rockies. The first of these systems looks to make it to CO towards the very end of January, with more systems to follow. However, long range models have suggested a pattern change previously without it occurring, but I will keep hope out that this change will actually occur and bring CO some much needed precipitation. This would also bring some very needed rain and snow to CA, OR and WA.

Good weather for NFL games today. Temps near 60 degrees in Denver with light winds for the Bronco game, and in Seattle, foggy conditions with temps in the low to mid 40's and light winds.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!
