Our brief blast of winter brought generally 1-4 inches of snow to eastern CO and snow has exited the state for the most part. Warm and breezy conditions are expected across CO Friday through Sunday with temps expected to be 10-20 degrees above seasonal norms. Westerly winds of 15-35 mph expected at times from Friday through Sunday afternoon with some higher gusts possible.

Another arctic surge of air will begin moving south into the central U.S. early next week, and this will push a cold front into eastern CO, similar to our recent event, Sunday night into Monday. Models now suggesting snow will move into eastern CO early Monday morning and light snow likely to persist into Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Looks like light accumulations expected again, so perhaps in the 1/2 to 3 inch range again with very cold temps Monday, thus Monday commute could be slow and slick and possibly again Tuesday morning.

Later next week, models continue to suggest the upper level pattern will begin to change. Upper ridge now centered over the Pacific Northwest is forecast to move northwest into Alaska which would allow storms to move in off the Pacific to the west coast and progress into CO. For next week, models suggest a chance for mountain snow Wednesday and Thursday, but areas east of the Divide remain dry, although some push east into the foothills is possible. Then next weekend into the following week, additional and better precip chances occur as systems move into CO from the west. This is all predicated on the upper level pattern actually changing, which models have suggested would happen before and it has not, so time will tell. The change in the upper level pattern would also impact the forecast for the Super Bowl, so until there is better clarification on this happening, too early to predict Super Bowl weather accurately. Until the pattern change occurs, more cold and snowy weather is forecast for the upper midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast from Friday through the middle of next week.
