wxgeek's weather-Precip chance back this weekend-Update 6/20

Sunny and warm day for most of CO today, just a few isolated storms on the far eastern plains this afternoon. Models suggest better precip chances return to much of CO this weekend and into early next week. Ripples in the flow aloft continue to move in brisk westerly flow aloft over the western U.S. Despite longer range models continually trying to build an upper ridge, reality is showing up differently. Thus, Saturday afternoon and evening will show better precip chances from the mountains to the plains. Storms likely to be of the isolated variety, but some could become quite strong approaching severe limits on the plains. Generally light precip amounts expected unless you happen to be underneath a strong storm where much heavier amounts would be possible. Sunday looks to have even better precip chances statewide, so isolated to scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, with isolated storms approaching severe limits east of the foothills.

This pattern looks to persist into Monday and Tuesday of next week, with more isolated to scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms from the mountains to the plains. Models then suggest conditions to dry out some mid to late next week and into next weekend. However, models have been quick to dry things out when the atmosphere tends to bring moisture back into the state, so would not count on totally dry conditions later next week and models suggest an upper trough moving into CO next weekend which could bring better precip chances and cooler temps. In general, expect temps to be near seasonal norms this weekend and early next week, then above mid to late next week.
