A rather soggy day is in store today as monsoon moisture plume is focused on CO and NM today. In addition, upper level disturbance will move across CO in this flow to enhance precip. Heaviest precip looks to be focused from the Divide east today, so foothills and plains expected to get from 0.50 to 1.5 inches of rain for most areas, while some areas could see up to 3 inches of rain today in heavier storms. Storm motion expected to be from the southwest at 15-25 mph, so fast enough to limit flash flood potential, but training of storms could produce prolonged periods of heavy rain and cause localized flooding. Driving could be difficult at times today with puddles and standing water on roads, as well as some debris flows, so be prepared for adverse conditions mostly this afternoon and evening. Some storms could becomes severe mostly east of I-25, but biggest threat today is flooding along with plenty of lightning. Precip could persist into nighttime hours, especially on the plains.

For Saturday, a vigorous upper trough will move across CO from the northwest and drag a cold front through the state Saturday afternoon and evening. Thus, good precip chances return to most of CO Saturday afternoon and evening with storm motion from the northwest at 15-25 mph. Some snow atop the highest peaks possible Saturday night as cooler air moves in post cold front. Sunday looks cooler, but mostly dry statewide with only isolated showers and thunderstorms over the High Country.

For next week, another vigorous upper trough will move into the northern Rockies Monday into Tuesday and drag anther cold front through CO late Monday. Precip chances look good Monday afternoon and evening, as well as on Tuesday along with cooler temps. Another dusting of snow above 12,000 to 13,000 ft will be possible Monday night and Tuesday night.

Upper ridge builds back across the West Wednesday so warmer temps and drier conditions expected Wednesday through next Friday. Models then not quite sure about the Labor Day weekend. Another upper trough could move into CO and create cooler temps and some precip next weekend, but too early to tell with much confidence. Pattern aloft is looking very Fall like.
