wxgeek's weather-Cooler with Precip Chances This Weekend

After a enjoyable yet soggy golf vacation to Myrtle Beach, back to reality. Very nice Fall day across the state with temps well above seasonal norms. However, we will see a big change over the next 24-72 hours in our weather. Vigorous upper trough off the CA coast will become a closed upper low in the Great Basin this weekend, and finally move across CO on Monday. At the surface, precip will move into the Great Basin today into Saturday, and spread into western CO Saturday afternoon and evening, mostly west of Vail Pass. On Sunday, western CO will receive more precip but majority will once again remain along and west of the Divide with snow level remaining above 12,000 ft. Some showers could stray into the foothills Sunday afternoon and evening, but not much if any measurable precip expected east of the Divide. Foothills could see some gusty westerly winds Saturday afternoon into Sunday night.

On Monday, as upper level trough finally passes over CO, precip chances will increase east of the Divide. Best chances look to be from Monday afternoon into Monday night as precip will also be likely across western CO Monday during the day. Snow level looks to remain at or above 12,000 ft Monday, but could lower to around 10,000 ft Monday evening and night. Higher foothills could see some flakes, but not expecting any accumulations at this time.

Tuesday through Thursday should see mostly dry conditions, with a few isolated showers possible mostly over the higher terrain. Temps should be near seasonal norms. By late next week, upper ridge is forecast to build back over the western U.S. which should keep CO mostly dry and temps will rise above seasonal norms into next weekend.

Long range models suggest CO will see mostly dry conditions with temps at or above seasonal norms into early to mid October.
