wxgeek's weather-Forecast for the Week Ahead

22 Mar 2015 21:31 #1 by MountainTownAlerts
Failry nice day across the state today, a few more clouds with a few showers popping up from the Divide to the foothills. Temps still well above seasonal norms today as the Spring melt continues. Green up beginning to occur below about 6000 ft.

For the week ahead, a series of weak systems will move across CO. First system will move into CO Monday afternoon into Monday night. Precip chances will increase Monday afternoon over the High Country with snow level initially around 10,000 ft. Latest models indicate this system will be a bit stronger than previous model runs. Precip chances will spread east to the Front Range Crest by Monday evening into Monday night as cold front moves east across the state and snow level lowers to 8000 ft by Monday night. Some light precip will be possible into the foothills Monday night into Tuesday morning as snow level lowers to around 6000-7000 ft Tuesday morning. Believe any snow would be less than 1 inch at this time in the foothills, with 2-5 inches possible in the mountains . The other impact will be strong westerly winds developing Monday night into Tuesday morning behind cold front. Winds speeds look to mostly be in the 20-45 mph range but some gusts to 60 mph may be possible at higher elevations in the foothills. Winds and preicp chances will diminsh by late Tuesday morning into the afternoon, but temps will be below seaosnal norms.

Next system will move across CO Tuesday night into Wednesday night. Precip chances move into the northern and central mountains Tuesday night with snow level around 6000 ft. Precip will move east during the day on Wednesday with precip chances into the foothills and adjacent plains with snow level down to plains level during the day on Wednesday. Amounts expected to be less than 1-2 inches in the foothills, with higher amounts possible in the mountains. Conditions should clear out by Wednesday night, but temps remain below seaosnal norms.

Next system may move over CO on Thursday. Models not in good agreement whether any precip will fall over CO on Thursday, so any amounts expected to be light, mostly in showers with snow level around 5000-6000 ft, so temps expected to remain below seasonal norms on Thursday as well with brisk northwest winds. Some flurries may be possible through about midnight Thursday night.

Friday into the coming weekend looks dry statewide with temps back above seaosnal norms. For next week, models indicate upper ridge will build back over the Inter-Mountain West, so temps expected to be above seaosnal norms. Models indicate a chance for some afternoon showers, which look mostly convective in nature and look to remain mostly over the High Country. Models are vascilating on whether a more significant system will move over CO next weekend.
